Revelation 7 says:
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to
hurt the earth and the sea, saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed a hundred and forty and
four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.
The four angels are not to be released to “hurt the earth and the sea” until the “chosen ones” have been
“sealed” on their foreheads. But leaving aside the question of who, or what are the angels referred to, why are they “holding back the wind so that it doesn’t blow on the earth”?
(9) After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed
in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb!" 13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, clothed in white robes,
and whence have they come?" 14 I said to him, "Sir, you know."
And he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore
are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night within his temple; and he who sits upon the throne will shelter them with his presence. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not
strike them, nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
These then, dressed in white, are NOT the survivors of “The Great Tribulation”, the worldwide disaster which has just occurred but the ONES WHO HAVE DIED! It says they are “dressed in white robes”
which basically means “put into white body bags” as in the following quotation from Revelation: 6.v1
Then each of them was given a white robe and told to "rest
a little while until their brethren had been killed, just as they themselves had been killed"
It confirms that dressed in white means they have died and been placed in white for burial. They are now deceased
and have gone to a place where they will not hunger nor thirst any more…in Heaven - they are no longer alive on earth!
It says that they will go into the “Temple of God” where they will no
longer be hungry or thirsty. This multitude was described as “standing before the throne” (7:9), which is in heaven (1:4; 4:2-10). It confirms that they are deceased and currently being looked after in Heaven!
144,000 by comparison, are the ones who are still alive at the end of The Great Tribulation and are the ones who, until they die naturally, will live on earth. They have not been resurrected, as is usually claimed but are
the survivors of the Great Tribulation, just as Jesus promised when he said:
Matthew 22 v 22.24
“If those days had not been for-shortened, no life would have been left on earth. But for the sake of the elect, those
days will be for-shortened”.
Compared to the great multitude, which no man could number, who are now dead, only 144,000 remain alive at the beginning of The Millenial Reign.
what is the relevance of the four angels at the four corners of the earth? Can we make some sense of this and will it help to throw more light on this situation?
“The Living God” commands them “not to hurt anyone
until the “chosen ones” have been “sealed”. More than that, these angels appear to be protecting the earth, “holding the four winds of the earth, so that the wind should not blow on the earth, or on the sea, or on any tree”.
Looking at the current situation, in the middle of the Coronavirus Pandemic, this prophecy seems to make a lot more sense! Covid 19 is an airborne disease, transmitted by breathing an infection on another person so “holding
back the “wind” so that it doesn’t “blow on the earth” (or any other person), now makes complete sense especially with the observation “till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.”
You don’t actually “seal” or even “immunise” anyone on their forehead, but everyone today can recognize the way someone’s temperature is normally taken during testing for coronavirus, simply by aiming the device at the
forehead of the person whose temperature you want to measure!
So the prophecy is simply saying “don’t let anyone breathe over anything, including our 144,000 subjects, while we test them for infection!”
Much is sometimes
made of the fact that the 144,000 are from the 12 tribes of Israel but that the tribe of Dan does not appear there. I think that merely confirms that the tribe of Dan did actually disappear at some time in history whereas the other 10 tribes who never returned
after their captivity in Babylon, merely located elsewhere.
The tribe of Jacob, which was composed of Ephraim and Manasseh ended up in the UK and USA respectively. The other tribes were scattered across Europe and the Middle East. It seems
only very few in total have actually survived the Great Tribulation compared with those who have perished!
The 144,000 on Mt Zion, in Rev 14, seems to be a completely different prophecy. If they were all one prophecy about the same event, why
are they dealt with separately in Revelation and 7 and 14 respectively and 7 chapters apart?
We will accordingly deal with Revelation 14 separately as: The 144,000 on Mt Zion.
