NEWS FROM THE NORTH AND FROM THE EAST WILL DISTURB HIM:
"But he will gain control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver and over all the precious things of Egypt; and Libyans and Ethiopians will follow at his heels.
44 "But rumours from the East and from the North
will disturb him, and he will go forth with great wrath to destroy and annihilate many.
45"He will pitch the tents (tabernacles) of his royal pavilion between the seas and the beautiful Holy Mountain; yet he will
come to his end, and no one will help him.…
“He” in a prophecy, you would think, would normally refer back to a previous person but this assumption
has often proved to be incorrect in Daniel and “he” can refer to someone entirely new and previously UNSPECIFIED, as one prophecy melts seamlessly into the next.
Here are the preceding verses
of Daniel (from the New Living Translation) and the heading is relevant and revealing! This is a separate identity; a different king of the north and a different king of the south.
This (previous prophecy)
is definitely Donald Trump, identified by Pope Francis as the antichrist (or at least as “unchristian”) in the recent “apostacy” and identified in the Bible as the “Man of Lawlessness” and
“the Son of Perdition”. Read the explanation of this prophecy here:
36 “The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what
has been determined must take place.
37 He will show no regard for the gods of his ancestors or for the one desired by women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all.
38 Instead of them, he will honor a god of fortresses; a god unknown to his ancestors he will honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts.
39 He will attack
the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price.[d]
40 “At the time
of the end the king of the South will engage him in battle, and the king of the North will storm out against him with chariots and cavalry and a great fleet of ships. He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood.
41 He will also invade the Beautiful Land. Many countries will fall, but Edom, Moab and the leaders of Ammon will be delivered from his hand.
42 He will extend his power over many countries; Egypt
will not escape
The above is all about Donald Trump and the verses about “the news from the north and from the east” would seem to be a continuation, with this news troubling
Donald Trump; BUT IS IT?
You could understand Donald Trump’s involvement with gold and silver but what have Libyans and Ethiopians got to do with him? And what news would bother Donald Trump from whatever direction?
Let’s read the “continuation” verses again!
43. "But he will gain control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver and over all the precious things of Egypt;
and Libyans and Ethiopians will follow at his heels.
44 "But rumours from the East and from the North will disturb him, and he will go forth with great wrath to destroy
and annihilate many.
45"He will pitch the tents (tabernacles) of his royal pavilion between the seas and the beautiful Holy Mountain; yet he will come to his end,
and no one will help him.…
The last verse gives a clue to the event where “tabernacles”, which are translated in the Bible as “tents” are pitched. However, the Oxford Dictionary
translates “tabernacles” as a “fixed or movable habitation of light construction”. 2000 years ago these would have been tents but today we usually picture such temporary structures differently.
you hear these “temporary light structures” are pitched “between the beautiful mountain and the sea” you could be listening to a commentary straight from your TV about the Olympic Games in Rio. That’s exactly what drew my attention
to this event yesterday, when Rio de Janeiro was described exactly as that; a city between the beautiful mountain and the sea!
But it doesn’t stop there! The bible describes it as
“the beautiful HOLY Mountain. But why is it holy? Because there is actually a temple at the top of it!
The Good News Translation of the Bible is even more specific in confirming
that this is indeed the “Beautiful Holy Mountain” referred to in Daniel, when it says:
45 He will even set up his huge royal tents between the sea and the mountain on which the Temple stands
The International Children’s Bible says:
45 He will set up his royal tents. They will be between the sea and the beautiful mountain where
the Temple is built.
So, if we are right that this is the Olympic setting in Rio, does the rest of the alleged prophecy make sense? I think it does! It says firstly in v 43:
43. "But he will gain control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver (does this refer to medals?) and over all the precious things of Egypt(?); and Libyans and Ethiopians (great long distance runners) will
follow at his heels.
This suggests that “he” is a long distance runner who will win at least one gold and one silver medal and the Libyans and Ethiopians will be close behind him.
Or perhaps, since this is the first verse of the 3, it identifies the individual as one who has already “gained control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver” in the past, holding off competition from Libyans
and Ethiopians. A more likely explanation, on reflection, and looking at the final verse again!
The prophecy continues:
44 "But rumours from
the East and from the North will disturb him, and he will go forth with great wrath to destroy and annihilate many.
Whoever “he” is, the allegations of organised doping of athletes, relates to Russia
(news from the north) and China (news from the east) and “he” is “disturbed” by this news.
He will go forth with great wrath to destroy and annihilate many
probably just means defeating and eliminating his many competitors on the track, rather than destroying them literally in battle!
But who is “he”? We don’t know at this stage
but perhaps we are beginning to have a tiny suspicion!
The prophecy (sadly) concludes:
45"He will pitch the tents (tabernacles) of his royal pavilion between
the seas and the beautiful Holy Mountain; yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.…
It appears to say he will die and no one will help him but I suspect it will be much less
dramatic than that and he will actually come to the end of a race, perhaps collapse before the finish line and no one will step forward to assist him.
The next 10 days should prove or disprove the
explanation of this particular prophecy because, if it happens, it will be very obvious now we are looking out for it!
“He” will be positively identified as a previous or current winner of a gold
and silver medals, will probably be a long distance runner and “he” will
“come to an end and no one will help him”.
can never accurately predict exactly what a prophecy means until after the event but often the predicted end is very much less severe than the reading would at first suggest.
Let’s hope so in this case because
“he” looks very much like our much-loved Mo Farah and we would hate anything serious to happen to him!
Bible translators decide to make unwarranted assumptions and elaborate on what the scripture says because THEY know that these prophecies are all about Israel! So why not fill in some “obvious details”
to help those who don’t know that?
Here is one “elaborated” version:
New International Reader translation (NIRV)
He will set up his royal tents. He will put them between the Mediterranean Sea and the beautiful holy mountain of Zion. But his end will come……
Hopefully in 10 day's time we
will see that one shouldn’t make unwarranted assumptions!
